About this course

The Multi Skills course introduces school pupils to the Built Environment through the practical construction route. It comprises of “hands on” in craft areas such as carpentry and joinery; bricklaying; painting and decorating; plumbing and electrical.  Pupils will learn how to work safely in practical workshops and how to use tools safely before being shown how to carry out practical tasks in the various workshops.

A range of practical skills are developed including painting and decorating, carpentry and bench joinery and plumbing. In addition the course involves employability skills which are transferrable across a number of future pathways. 

This course is available to study over one or two academic years depending on the group.   

Mandatory Units: 

  • Understanding Industry  
  • Personal Development: Self and Work 

The optional Units will depend on course location. School based groups will look at Carpentry and Joinery, Paintwork and plumbing.
