What's college like?

content

Our main campus is situated on Crieff Road within a pleasant woodland setting. Life at college is different to school because you are in an environment where there is a wide age group of learners.

As well as classrooms, you’ll learn in ‘real-life’ settings including hair and beauty salons, working kitchens, automotive engineering facilities and other workshop which are fitted to industry standards, so that you can get the most realistic learning environment experience possible.

The college has a good range of places to eat and buy refreshments. You are able to access all library and electronic resources to aid your study and wider interests.

The college teaches in 2 semesters – semester 1 from August to January and semester 2 from February to June.  The teaching sessions are designed to fit into your school timetable.

Whilst attending courses at college, your attendance and progress is monitored and reported back to your school, as part of your normal curriculum.

Pupil testimonials:
"The course is more focused on the subject than school would be and brings what you learn in school together."

"There is more of a focus on gaining skills for your career and opens doors for us though meeting different employers such as SSE, Oceaneering, Balfour Beatty, Edwards Engineering and Spectraglass. This should help us get a job in engineering."

"College gives you more freedom, you are treated like an adult. You also get the opportunity to meet people from other schools and it’s great that your transport is paid for."

Ciaran on the Business Skills Foundation Apprenticeship programme found a placement especially inspiring. He says: “I very much enjoyed a trip to the company 'Outplay Entertainment' and I learned lots!”

School testimonial:
“Many of our pupils speak highly of the blend of college at UHI Perth and school. They greatly value employer input to the Foundation Apprenticeship programme.”
