Our Scholarships
UHI Perth have a number of scholarships worth £1000. They focus on helping students progress into the next year of their higher education studies - where they may face financial challenges to doing so.
Support is available to UHI Perth students for the duration of one year to progress their studies and aims to help talented students reach their goals. Please note there are also a range of scholarships available to you through UHI.
Applications for UHI Perth scholarships should be received by Friday 7 October (unless otherwise stated) and decision on most scholarships made by November. The scholarship funds recipients are paid in 2 instalments half when the award is made and the remainder at the end of the academic year on receipt of a final report.

Blackhills Clinic is a purpose-built, specialist dental referral clinic located south of Perth just off the main A9 dual carriageway. At Blackhills Clinic, the Specialists work together in multidisciplinary teams to provide the highest standards of contemporary, advanced dental treatment for the many complex and challenging cases referred from all across Scotland.
Students studying Administration and IT (HND or HNC) are invited to apply for this award. The successful student will have the opportunity to work up to 80 hours at Blackhills Clinic to gain work experience.

A number of scholarships are available for students from a care experienced background. Care experience includes anyone in residential or foster care, kinship care, looked after at home with support from local authority or a care leaver (leaving care / no longer in care but under 26 years of age).
A scholarship is a financial reward which is gifted to the successful candidate to help support them in their studies. This gift is not means tested and there is no requirement to pay this back.
The award is open to all full-time care experienced students across the curriculum. The successful student will be awarded £1000.

Available to students in HNC and HND Beauty Therapy
We’re told by our therapists that we’re a fun and sociable place to be and work as a real team but that doesn’t mean sharing treatment rooms. Our therapists are allocated a room at the start of the day with no chopping and changing so they’re able to focus on the client and not logistics. And we don’t expect them to handle cash or take computer bookings either so they can concentrate on the customer and the treatment. The scholarship also includes one weeks work experience at Crieff Hydro.
Here’s what a typical days looks like:
- Come into work and pick up freshly laundered towels
- Collect schedule for the day and prepare your room and yourself mentally and physically.
- Treatments (anything from massage to hen party nails to bridal make-up)
- Lunch in our team canteen to make sure our therapists have down time
- Treatments
- Half hour cleaning time at the end of the day.

The Crieff Hydro Scholarship is open to students interested in a career as a chef. We’re renowned as one of Scotland’s leading leisure resorts and we have seven different eating outlets.
With your scholarship, you’ll have the opportunity to train under some top chefs with great credentials. You’ll gain practical experience in different kitchens with our various food concepts from authentic Italian pizza to modern Scottish with a twist.
We’re always on the lookout for new talented chefs and our variety of menus gives something for everyone. If you join us after your scholarship or during holiday periods you will be paid as a full member of staff.

The Drummond Foundation Scholarship provides an award of £500 for a student studying Health and Social Care with a particular interest in caring for Dementia suffers. There will be no work experience attached to this award but the student would need to express an interest in caring for people with dementia.
Franco-Scottish Scholarship

Available to all students
The Franco-Scottish Society aims to promote and strengthen contacts (educational, cultural and social) between Scotland and France. A late member of the Society, Alexander Gray, left a legacy in the form of a trust fund for young people who are studying French in order to enable them to go to France and pursue their studies in an environment where they would have to speak French. Each year, the Franco-Scottish Society awards £1000 for this purpose. Applicants are invited to submit approximately one page of A4 describing how they would use the money to improve their French.
Additionally, if applicants have any long-term or career plans that involve a knowledge of French, they would be worth mentioning. After completing their séjour in France, the student is asked to give a short presentation, in French, detailing their experience.

- Two weeks’ work experience at the hotel where they will experience a number of food and beverage outlets. This will include a minimum of one day at the Gleneagles Town House in Edinburgh.
- An invitation to attend one of our in-house kitchen masterclasses.
- An opportunity to apply for a paid placement to work at the hotel over their summer holidays, with the option of carrying on employment on a part time basis during their HND year.

Available to students in HNC Construction, HND Administration or HND Accounting
GS Brown Construction is a family-owned business originally established in 1970. As well as various developments throughout Scotland, they provide one-off building services for clients on their own land.
They also have a small contracts division which is expanding rapidly, with high demand for conversions and extensions.
This scholarship also includes up to 80 hours work experience with GS Brown.

THE GUILDRY INCORPORATION OF PERTH EDUCATIONAL - Bursaries 2023
Bursaries of £1000 will be available to be awarded during 2023. The number of bursaries is limited, and they are awarded for one year only. Applicants, whether successful or unsuccessful, may re-apply in subsequent years. There is no guarantee that a candidate who is successful in one year will be awarded a bursary in a subsequent year, as applicants are considered on their merits each year. The intention is to provide some financial assistance to students rather than necessarily supporting them for the entire duration of a course. Financial need will be a major determinant in making awards.
REGULATIONS FOR APPLICANTS
1 ELIGIBILITY:
You must be:
a) normally resident in Perth or Guildtown and pursuing, or about to pursue, a full-time post-school course of study based at an institution in the United Kingdom;
or
b) in your final year of attendance at one of the Perth secondary schools and about to proceed to a full-time post-school course of study based at an institution in the United Kingdom (regardless of usual place of residence);
or
c) pursuing a full-time post-school course of study based at an institution in the United Kingdom having spent at least the final year of your schooling at one of the Perth secondary schools (regardless of usual place of residence).
N.B. The “Perth secondary schools” referred to above are Perth Academy, Perth Grammar School, Perth High School, Bertha Park High School and St John’s Academy (formerly St Columba’s High School).
2 APPLICATION:
Your application must consist of:
a) an application form which is available for download from the Guildry website

b) a statement setting out in no more than 300 words
i) Why you believe you should be awarded a bursary, and
ii) How it would help you in your particular circumstances.
(Financial need is a major criterion in awarding bursaries, and applicants are therefore invited to provide relevant information about their financial circumstances.)
c) a copy of the letter of acceptance from your chosen institution;
d) a supporting reference (see 3 overleaf) /contd.
3 REFERENCE
The reference should provide a recent, impartial and first-hand assessment of your educational performance, relevant personal qualities, and, if you are about to embark on a course, suitability for the chosen course. This will, therefore, normally come from a person associated with your studies during the preceding year. A sheet “To the Referee” is enclosed and this should be emailed to the referee when making your request for a reference. The Guildry Incorporation may contact the referee should it be considered necessary.
4 SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION
You must comply with the procedure specified at the bottom of the Application Form. This is to protect applicants by avoiding the possibility of fraudulent references.
5 CLOSING DATE
Your application, with the reference, must be returned to the Guildry Office no later than Wednesday 27th September 2023. Applications / references received after that date, for whatever reason, will not be considered. Successful applicants will be notified in November 2023.
6 DISCRETION
The Guildry Incorporation of Perth shall have full discretion in awarding the bursaries, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into regarding individual applications.
7 CONFORMITY
Submission of an application implies your acceptance of these regulations. Applications which do not conform to these regulations will not be considered.
8 GUIDANCE
The definitive regulations relating to application for bursaries are contained in this document. The Guildry Incorporation does not provide any information to compilers of websites purporting to offer information on sources of funding for students, and any references to Guildry bursaries in such sites should be disregarded.

The award is open to all full-time care experienced students across the curriculum. The successful student will be awarded £1000, the benefactor will act as a friend throughout the course, offering encouragement and support.

HIT (Hospitality Industry Trust) Scotland Scholarship
HIT (Hospitality Industry Trust) Scotland Scholarship
Value £1000 (in expenses)
The scholarship is open to any hospitality and tourism student and will give the winner the chance to gain exceptional work experience in one of HIT’s major European learning destinations, or a specific craft scholarship, depending on the aptitude of the winner.
The experience will be tailored to suit the programme and ambitions of the successful candidate. Students are not given a financial award but HIT will organise and pay for travel and accommodation during the work experience period.
International Scholarship
International Scholarship
An International Scholarship is being offered to students or former students of UHI Perth or the University of the Highlands and Islands to the value of £1000. Applications are invited from students/ former students who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You are undertaking an International qualification at a more advanced level than your existing level of qualification.
- You are undertaking a piece of research which will be of value to expand or enhance UHI Perth and the University of the Highlands and Islands international development.
- You are engaged with other Colleges or Universities in international markets where those partnerships can generate new international partnerships for the College. These partnerships may lead to either student exchanges and/ or generate new student applications to UHI Perth from those College or University partners.
- You are undertaking an international work or study experience which will enhance the learning that you have been undertaking on your course at UHI Perth/ the University of the Highlands and Islands.
This scholarship could be utilised to cover the following eligible costs:
- Support towards the costs of undertaking an international qualification.
- Support towards international travel costs.
- Support towards the time associated with undertaking research.
Applicants from UHI Perth and UHI students and former students interested in applying for this scholarship should submit an application by 31 March 2022 outlining:
- What you are applying for this funding for.
- Why you feel you should be awarded this international scholarship.
- How you meet the criteria.
- How you propose to utilise the international scholarship funding should you be successful.
Please note this is a competitive process for one international scholarship for this academic year. Depending on the volume of applications, shortlisted candidates may be invited for interview in early April 2022 in order that we can select the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be required to draft a report on how this funding has been utilised and the resulting impact from this scholarship award at a date agreed between the successful candidate and UHI Perth at the time of the award being made.

Available to students in NC Built Environment (Joinery)
Meldrum is a long-established company with the Head Office and workshops based in Inveralmond, Perth. They offer an “all trades” service for projects ranging from small repair work to delivering extensions, alterations and refurbishments in both the domestic and commercial sectors.
The successful student from NC Built Environment (Joinery) will have the opportunity for work experience for one day a month throughout the academic year with Meldrum, gaining valuable knowledge in their chosen field of study.

The Mercure Perth scholarship is open to all students interested in a career in Hospitality whether it’s in the Kitchen or in Hospitality Management.
Situated in Perth’s city centre our 76 bedroom hotel is a stunning converted 15th century watermill, we have a hotel restaurant, a lounge bar and 4 function rooms. With your scholarship you will have the opportunity to work with us for up to 80 hours where you will experience and work with each Head of Department to gain a good insight into Hospitality Management. The Murrayshall Country Estate Scholarship is open to all students interested in a career in Hospitality. Situated in the evergreen heart of Perthshire, Murrayshall dates back over 400 years. The former home of Lord Lynedoch is not only a stately house, but a landmark on the Scottish landscape. We have 40 sophisticated rooms and suites, as well as 27 holes of parkland golf. We have 2 Restaurants, Eolas and Cairns, along with our Barossa Bar which poses stunning views of the landscape.
With your scholarship, you will have the opportunity to work with us for up to 80 hours where you will experience and train in each department of the hotel including Food and Beverage, Reception and Housekeeping amongst our dedicated team.
If you join us after your scholarship or during holiday periods, you will be paid as a member of staff.
Nae Limits Scholarship

Available to students in Outdoor Activities and Leadership.
Based in Perthshire, Nae Limits is one of Scotland’s leading adventure and outdoor activity centre.
The decision to award the scholarship is based on student performance during the course. Successful students will be put through Swift Water Rescue Technicians and White Water Raft Guide courses. Nae Limits Awards will be made at the end of March.

Available to students studying any Degree-level Engineering course.
The Norman Fraser Design Trust was established in 1968 initially to assist with seed corn funding for specific engineering projects. The purposes of the Trust have since been expanded to include the provision of scholarships for students studying an engineering-related course within Tayside.
The scholarship is available for a student undertaking an engineering-related degree and is designed to alleviate financial hardship. Open to all students studying a full-time engineering course at UHI Perth.

The Perth & Kinross Employability network is a consortium of public and third sector employability service providers in the Perth & Kinross area. The Network is coordinated through Perth & Kinross Council and receives digital services from UHI Perth.
The Scholarship will run throughout the academic year and will include some contact time during normal academic holidays. This Scholarship will give an enthusiastic student the opportunity to engage with UHI Perth service provision staff and the wider Network to maintain and develop the digital presence of the Network and include opportunities to develop your skillset around Server Administration, Database Development, and Web Development and Design.
The Scholarship is funded by, Job Centre Plus, Perth & Kinross Council, and NHS Tayside.
