Christopher Kaan Caudwell: Winner 'Student of the Year Award' International Integration Initiative: Commended 'Inclusive College Award'

UHI Perth is proud to announce its outstanding achievements at the prestigious CDN College Awards 2025, held to celebrate excellence across Scotland’s college sector.

Christopher Kaan Caudwell, a dedicated and inspiring learner, was named Winner of the Student of the Year Award, recognising his exceptional commitment to his studies and his positive impact on the UHI community.

In addition, UHI Perth’s International Integration Initiative was commended in the Inclusive College Award category, highlighting the university’s ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all learners.

John Small, Sector Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see Christopher’s hard work and determination recognised on a national stage. We are equally proud of our International Integration Initiative, which demonstrates our commitment to fostering inclusivity and global engagement."

Christopher added: "Winning this award means so much to me. UHI Perth has supported me, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow academically and personally."

Christopher was nominated for Student of the Year in recognition of his remarkable academic and personal journey. Originally from Turkey, Christopher moved to Scotland alone to pursue his passion for inclusive technology. He demonstrated extraordinary resilience - continuing his studies remotely during a mental health crisis and returning stronger than ever.

Class representative, President of the Computing Club, and a leading voice in the college’s neurodiverse group, Christopher's AI-powered app, Gestura, which translates British Sign Language into speech, has won multiple business competitions and earned him recognition from industry leaders and government officials.
