Top safety tips for Total Solar Eclipse Friday 20th March

With the Total Solar Eclipse taking place this Friday 20th March 2015, those who plan to view this will need to take precautions. BBC news warns over use of smartphones on the day:

‘Inadvertently glancing at the Sun - even briefly while setting up a shot - can lead to burns at the back of eye.’

In Perth and Kinross the eclipse will begin 08:31, max 09:36 and end 10:44. During this time it is important to use one of the following methods to protect your eyes:

  • Eclipse glasses ensures safe and enjoyable viewing (make sure the glasses are not scratched or have any holes)
  • make a pinhole camera (can use two bits of card or make one out of a cereal box
  • use a sieve/sifter/colander and a piece of paper with your back to the sun (can be found in the kitchen)
