Motor Vehicle Project Caddy

This project by the Motor Vehicle department, was an opportunity to demonstrate by design how cars are constructed using sheet steel, forming box sections with the metal, using differing welding techniques and mechanical fasteners.

The main construction was carried out by students on our Diploma in Accident Repair Body Principles Level 5/6 alongside students on our Certificate in Introduction to Motor Vehicle Industry and Technologies course, who chose the colourway and carried out the paint preparation.

Motor Vehicle Lecturer Ricky Neil said:

“This is a project I have wanted to try for several years; I gave the Level 6 group the idea. With my knowledge of vehicle construction, I was able to offer guidance to begin with, but I was then able to step back and watch the project come alive with enthusiasm from the groups and minimum guidance from myself.”

Motor Vehicle Student David Rose said:

“I’ve learned so much from this project, I’ve loved fabricating the panels and you have a great sense of achievement when you finally fit all the panels together to make the finished project which is what we've done this year.”
