In a significant display of the strength and impact of its international partnerships, graduation ceremonies were held at:

  • Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics on Friday 9 May, where 102 students graduated, including 26 with distinction.
  • Henan University of Urban Construction on Monday 12 May, where 34 students graduated, with 7 distinctions.
  • Hunan Institute of Engineering on Wednesday 14 May, with 227 students receiving their degrees and 29 earning distinction.

These ceremonies represented more than half of all UHI engineering graduates in higher education this year, a clear demonstration of the scale and success of its Transnational Education (TNE) programmes.

UHI Perth staff led the graduation events in China, working across international time zones, reflecting UHI’s ongoing commitment to quality, professionalism and expanding global opportunities for students.

Nicky Inglis, Director of Curriculum at UHI Perth, said:

“These aren’t just ceremonies - they represent years of academic collaboration, cultural exchange and dedicated student support. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our graduates and the ongoing growth of these international partnerships.”

Heidi Hope, Sector Manager of Science, Engineering and Aircraft at UHI Perth, further commented:

“Following the excellent graduation ceremonies, we held successful and productive meetings with Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics and Henan University of Urban Construction. During these discussions, we explored opportunities to further strengthen our existing partnerships, with a focus on developing project-based and work-integrated learning experiences for international students studying in Perth.

“The continued success of these international collaborations, and the achievements of our students, are a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of our academic staff. Their efforts ensure a positive, high-quality, and sector-leading educational experience for all UHI Perth students—both locally and internationally."

Lin Shen, Director of Partnerships at UHI Perth, added:

“This is a story of global ambition, local excellence and the transformative power of partnership. Our students are excelling, our collaborations are flourishing, and UHI is gaining international recognition as a leader in transnational engineering education.”

As Scotland’s educational landscape continues to evolve, UHI is actively pursuing innovative and sustainable income streams to ensure long-term viability and academic excellence. A key part of this strategy is the university’s growing presence in China. The partnership with Zhengzhou University of Aeronautics, for example, is set to expand from 100 to 150 students next year, subject to the Chinese Ministry of Education approval.

Across all Chinese partnerships, UHI now generates over £1 million annually in supplementary income - a significant contribution to the university’s financial sustainability and global educational impact.

In addition, UHI representatives and TNE partners have conducted Joint Management Committee meetings to review current program delivery as part of an ongoing quality assurance processes. These discussions have also explored opportunities for expansion into new academic areas, further strengthening collaborations.
