Programme Revealed for Scottish Food and Textiles Teachers' Conference
The countdown is on!
The full programme for the Scottish Food and Textiles Teachers' Conference has now been unveiled, promising an inspiring day of hands-on learning, expert insights, networking and classroom-ready resources for Home Economics educators across Scotland.
Taking place at UHI Perth on Saturday 3 October, this year's conference theme is:
Global Citizenship: Food, Fashion and Fairness
Designed for Home Economics teachers and professionals working across food, nutrition and textiles education, the conference will explore how we can help young people understand the world around them and make informed, responsible and compassionate choices.
The programme brings together perspectives from education, food, sustainability and industry, alongside practical workshops designed to provide delegates with activities and resources they can take straight back into the classroom.
Expert speakers and sector insights
Delegates will hear from representatives from Qualifications Scotland, who will provide updates on Home Economics qualifications and current developments, alongside Solsgirth Home Farm, exploring Scottish food, provenance, farming and sustainability.
Four interactive workshops
The afternoon offers four practical workshop experiences:
- Food Chemistry in a Cup: The Science of Infusions
- Nepalese Food and Momo Making
- Cyanotype, Culture and Circular Fashion
- Food, Fairness and Global Citizenship
Each workshop has been designed to provide practical ideas, investigations and resources that can be adapted across BGE and National Qualifications.
More than a conference
Whether you're looking for fresh teaching ideas, meaningful professional discussions or opportunities to connect with colleagues from across Scotland, this conference offers a day packed with inspiration and practical learning.
Our aim is simple: delegates should leave with more than notes. They should leave with experiences, resources and ideas they can genuinely teach on Monday.
