£7,500 Awarded to Launch New Student Food Allotment Project
UHI Perth celebrates successful Green Living Fund bid
UHI Perth has been awarded £7,500 from the Green Living Fund to launch a new ‘Student Food Allotment Project’, aimed at boosting sustainability, wellbeing, and access to fresh food on campus.
The funding was awarded by Perth & Kinross Council’s Climate Change and Sustainable Development Team, recognising the positive impact this initiative will have on student life.
Student Engagement Coordinator Sam Monie explained: "This project is about more than growing food, it’s about creating opportunities for students to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, and connect with others. By growing fresh fruit and vegetables, supplying produce to The Big Project, and reducing food insecurity, we’re strengthening our commitment to sustainability while building confidence and community. We’re thrilled to receive this funding and look forward to seeing students and staff come together to make a real difference."
Councillor Richard Watters, Convener of the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee added: “The Green Living Fund empowers local ideas to create real impact. We’re delighted to support projects that benefit communities across Perth and Kinross—congratulations to UHI Perth on securing funding for their food-growing allotment, which will make a lasting difference for students and staff.”
Work on the allotment will begin soon this year, with the college seeking student and staff volunteers to help prepare, plant, and harvest.
