Craig Duncan Hair

content

We visited Craig to have a look at the salon and see Scotland’s first gender neutral pricelist.
A modern but comfortable vibe, Craig’s interior is comforting, friendly and the salon encourages ethical hairdressing. Craig achieved his level 5 and 6 qualifications out in industry and had a work based assessor from UHI Perth assess his work as he progressed through.

We asked Craig some questions:

What is your advice to a student working towards or completing their hairdressing qualification?
Confidence comes and I've learnt a lot more from doing clients, working in industry and learning from mistakes. I encourage students to learn as much as possible and be open to learning and trying EVERYTHING!

Networking is important - getting to know people in the industry and making connections. I'm open to people reaching out on instagram or dropping into the salon and getting to know me.

What is the secret to being a successful hairdresser and business owner?
An eye for detail is extremely important, being hardworking and having a ‘get up and go’ outlook. Passion, ability to think ahead and create visions is very important. It's important to keep learning and being willing to learn a variety of skills, updating your skills regularly.

What is next for the hair industry?
Tattooing scalps and mesh integration will be next.

What is your saviour product range?
Eleven Australia and Aveda are two ranges I am fond of and use. Knowing your products and ingredients are important!.

What are your three favourite Instagram pages for hair inspo?
Chris Appleton, Sophia Hilton, and Connor James Doyle. Go follow!

Lastly, why did you choose to change your price list to a gender neutral approach?
I felt strongly that fair pricing is a big part of equality. I noticed that the gender has less importance and that the clients individual hair should be the main factor.
