Face to Face

Traditional classroom teaching with one of our academic staff and your fellow students.

Distance Learning

Distance learning allows you to learn without having to attend regular classes on campus, so you can study where and when you want. Courses can be delivered in a variety of ways: by video conferencing, paper-based materials, through online discussion and also online tutor-led workshops.

When studying a course via distance learning, work books will be sent to your home address with details of how to contact your tutor. You will work through the books and send assignments into the College for marking on a regular basis. Your tutor will mark your mark and return their feedback to you.

Although you do not attend face to face classes, you can contact your tutor for help and advice by telephone or email.

Video Conference (VC)

Using cameras and microphones, this technology allows staff and students to see and hear each other across a network and also means common learning resources and materials can be shared. A VC can connect UHI campuses or sites anywhere that have the right technology.

Audio Conference (AC)

Using traditional phone systems or web-based phone technology, an audio conference enables three or more people to share a conversation or discussion. These technologies are used in a supportive way as part of a blend of teaching methods centered on you.

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

This web-based system enables you to access learning resources, find online guidance and support, and access and submit assessments. You can also communicate with staff and other students through discussion boards or live "chat".
