Scholarship success celebrated with generous benefactors

The workforce of the future strengthened their relationship with potential future employers at an event on Thursday 23 November.

Perth College UHI students who worked hard and excelled in their studies celebrated gaining a scholarship with lunch in the College’s Award Winning Gallery Restaurant which also served to thank benefactors for their generous support.

This year, 38 scholarships were gifted from some of Perthshire’s most prestigious and innovative employers. Those present at this year’s event heard from past student Fraser Cameron who previously won the Andrew Fairlie Scholarship. He told guests about his unique opportunity to work with Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles.  After completing his course, due to the experience he had gained, he was given the opportunity to go on and work in Paul Kitching’s 21212 Michelin star restaurant in Edinburgh.

Fiona Leslie, Development and Alumni Relations Manager explained: “The scholarship programme was established to enable our partners, organisations and friends to help develop the next generation of talented individuals.  Thanks to generous donations from businesses, individuals and trusts, we are able to offer these awards and over the years the programme has flourished. A whole range of opportunities exist from financial awards to professional mentoring and work experience, enriching the student experience and enabling them to go on to enjoy an even more rewarding career.

“In most cases, the awards are given to the most aspiring students who work hard and excel in their studies.  We are continually trying to extend the range of awards to make sure that every student has the chance to apply for a scholarship to suit their career aspirations. Our aim now is to attract awards for students who, for financial reasons, would not be able to come to college and study.”
