What is special about this course?
Suitable for learners aged 15+, the NQ Pathway to Beauty Skills SCQF Level 5 programme provides an accessible entry route into beauty therapy and further education.
The Pathway to Beauty Skills is a programme which will allow you to gain and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of the beauty sector and related industries. The course is delivered on a full-time basis and will provide you with a qualification and a defined skill set which reflects the skills essential for a successful career in this sector of employment. The main aim of the award is to allow you to gain the technical skills and the professional principles and practices of Beauty Therapy which will help you to make informed future career choices and into further study.
Through units such as facial manual, make up skills, competition skills, hand and nail techniques and portfolio presentation, learners will become competent in their practical ability as well as learning the importance of working together as part of a team and meeting the diverse needs of clients. Employability skills such as time keeping, treatment timing, customer care and personal presentation will be developed as will the opportunity to consider good citizenship through recycling products and consumables, waste control measures and having an appreciation of the sustainability of product brands used.
No formal qualifications are required; however, appropriate motivation, commitment and an interest in the beauty industry are essential.

This course is delivered over one year and covers a wide range of subjects needed for a career in beauty therapy, including:

- Developing Make-up Skills
- Competition Technical Skills
- Hand and Nail Techniques
- Portfolio Presentation
The emphasis is on practical skills which demonstrate underpinning theory.

Successful completion of this programme can lead to progression onto the NC Beauty Therapy Treatments and Services (SCQF Level 6)
The course also helps develop the practical, employability and personal skills required for entry-level roles within the beauty sector.
