Communication NC

What is special about this course?

Being an effective communicator allows you to interact with people in a whole range of situations.  This module is designed to help you improve skills in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Talking
  • Listening

The skills you will develop during the study of this module are useful for a range of further and higher education courses.

If achieved in combination with Literature 1, this module can also provide access to university as an alternative to Higher English.

Entry requirements

Applicants will usually have achieved English SCQF Level 5. However, we will consider every application individually and applicants without previous qualifications will be given a diagnostic activity to assess suitability for the course.

There are 4 areas of study:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Talking

How will I study my course?

  • Part Time
  • Distance learning
  • Online

As this course is offered via Distance Learning, it's up to you to decide when and how often you should study.  Ideally, you should designate a certain time slot each week for working on this module as this will help you to develop better time management (another useful skills to take in Higher Education).

The main benefit of studying via Distance Learning is that you can study anywhere you like.  However, you should plan your learning environment carefully as this can have an impact on your success.  Ideally, you will find somewhere that is quiet, comfortable and allows you access to information (such as a library or learning centre).

If you choose to study this module at home, try to set up an area specifically for this purpose (e.g. a dining table or desk).  This will help you to focus your mind on the task in hand and allows you to separate work and home life.
