Diploma in Accident Repair Body Principles Level 5
What is special about this course?
A comprehensive practical and knowledge based programme, this course prepares learners for work in the modern vehicle body repair and refinishing environment. The course is designed so that you can study for three years to achieve a Level 3 in both Vehicle Body Repair and Vehicle Refinishing. This allows students to choose which route they might prefer and provide them with a diploma in both disciplines. The department is equipped to a high standard, including the latest collision repair technology including welders and alignment equipment. This provides as environment that mirrors the modern vehicle repair industry.
Entry requirements
You should have two qualifications at SCQF Level 4/5 or equivalent and you will be asked to undertake an aptitude test and discuss your application with a member of staff. You can also progress onto this course with a relevant Level 3 Certificate.
Year 1
Focuses on safety, minor and basic vehicle repairs, thermal joining processes (welding) removing and refitting non-structural vehicle body panels and vehicle body construction. After completing this year successfully, you will have achieved a Level 5 in vehicle body repair.
Year 2
You will be studying towards Level 5 and 6 vehicle refinishing processes. This will include mixing and matching water based paint systems, repairing paint problems and paint defects, repairing and painting vehicles using various refinishing techniques.
Year 3
You will study towards Level 6 vehicle body repair. This will include using computerised chassis alignment to rectify vehicle chassis deformation, repairing extensively damaged vehicle body panels, resistance and mig brazing welding techniques on modern vehicle construction and mig welding to British standards.
Achievement is by examination and assessments taken during each year.

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.
Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.
What can I do on completion of my course?
If you successfully complete two years you can leave the programme with a Diploma in Level 5 Body Repair and Level 6 Paint Refinishing Award, or continue for a third year to complete a Level 6 Body Repair award. Level 6 awards are the current industry recognised trade level qualifications.
Many of our students are equipped to start their own business or continue with an employer as a final year apprentice in one of these disciplines (body or paint), with the aim of earning a modern apprenticeship award in employment.
