What is special about this course?

This course in welding skills is aimed at individuals looking to gain more practical skills to gain entry into the employment or further study. With the current offshore wind developments off the east coast of Scotland there is a huge requirement for individuals with these skillsets. Suitable for those looking to upskill, reskill and second skill and transition from one subject specialism to another, this introduction to welding course will equip first time welders and those looking to improve their practical skills in MIG welding processes with the fundamental knowledge and skills to weld. The course is a blend of practical and theoretical training and it will provide information on the most commonly used welding processes of MIG welding work, practical instruction on the operation and applications, and the safe use and handling of the equipment.

Entry requirements

On completion of this course, you will have covered:

  • Introduction to MIG/MAG welding
  • Safe use and handling MIG/MAG welding equipment
  • Preparing MIG/MAG welding equipment
  • Demonstration of MIG/MAG welding
  • Carry out practical welding exercises
  • Achieve SQA single unit qualification on single V butt and T Fillet joints
  • Identification and rectification of defects
  • Qualification number F5F7 12 MIG/MAG Welding Skills
