Building on my presentations and write-ups of the two Trans-States conferences (see below), I am currently researching what I hope to be my second book, provisionally titled Re-Enchantment is Resistance. This draws upon theorists such as Gilles Deleuze and Mark Fisher to a develop cultural history of the relationship between occultism and political activism, with a strong focus on the production and resistance of subjectivities in contemporary, technologically mediated societies.

I am also developing a research project, again drawing on Fisher, that re-engages with an historical strand of critical psychiatry (e.g. R. D. Laing) by seeking to understand mental health issues as not rooted simply in the individual but within the wider societal context of late-capitalism.

Hobbies and Interests

A restless creative, I have written and performed several stand-up comedy shows and while mostly ‘retired’ I sometimes get itchy feet.

I occasionally maintain a wordpress blog called Nth Mind, where I write about my research interests and other related speculations.

I also enjoy drawing and will be self-publishing my first comic book in 2021, based on The Fairy-Dog calendar, an ongoing art project investigating the nature of time, first developed in 2020.

If not writing or drawing I am reading or watching films. As of the time of writing I have, according to my records, watched 100 films this year so far. Bit slow for me. My records also list 22 books so far. Was aiming for at least one a week. Need to pick up the pace!
