Academic Interests

I have a wide and eclectic range of academic interests and approaches including: intellectual history, continental philosophy, critical theory, freedom of speech, surveillance studies, mental health and psychoanalysis, and heavy metal subculture.

Publications

I am currently writing an opinion piece for the online journal College Area Investigation Research Network (CAIRN) on the topic of free speech and debate in the FE sector.

Hobbies and Interests

I am a content writer/reviewer for Metal Temple magazine, and am thus a diehard metalhead and music fan more generally. I am a big Lord of the Rings fan and aspiring Tolkien nerd. I enjoy a wide range of other books, with particular interest in ancient history (‘mon the Romans!) and the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Appreciator of films of the sciencey and horrifying variety (particularly when the two are combined), I would say that my consumption of arts and cultural artefacts deals in the bizarre and thought-provoking! I get a particular kick out of analysing philosophical and sociological ideas through the lense of popular culture. See this site for a particularly good example.
