BA (Hons) Food, Nutrition and Textiles Education

I have permanently moved to Perth from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, since confirming my place at Perth College UHI.

I did consider other universities, but I decided to study at UHI because this course suited me more. I will be a qualified teacher one year before any other course offers me – without having to do a post graduate. Also, the facilities at Perth College UHI are fantastic.

The lecturers at Perth College UHI are so supportive. They are very passionate about their subjects and that helps to keep everyone motivated and excited to learn more. They take all points on board and always do their best for our learning.

I completed a 5 week placement at a secondary school. I absolutely loved my placement and it helped me to realise that I’m definitely on the correct course. It was exciting and scary standing up and teaching classes how to cook – but I had a ball, I was in my element. My lecturers and placement mentors were so supportive and only wanted the best for me. I can’t wait for the next one.

The facilities available at Perth College UHI are one of my favourite things – a “classroom” was built during the summer for my class, which is amazing.

The best thing about living in the Highlands and Islands is the scenery, there are so many beautiful places to go and see.

Studying this course will mean I will be qualified to be a home economics teachers one year faster than any other course in Scotland.
