The Green Skills Academy with Fabrication and Welding is suitable for those looking to upskill, reskill, or looking for a career change or to progress to further study. Suitable for all learners with an interest in developing their STEM-knowledge and Fabrication and Welding Skills to support their aspirations to secure employment in the sector, this course integrates three core strands of learning – technical knowledge and experience, transferable professional skills and transferable personal qualities to develop learners as T-shaped technologists to meet the needs of the workplace.

Your travel costs will be covered and lunches will be provided during the course.

Free Childcare Support will be available subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.

  • You will gain and SQA qualification in Skills for Work Energy at SCQF Level 5
  • You will study units in Hydrogen awareness and Offshore Wind
  • You will gain experience in MIG, TIG and MMA Welding Processes and Practices
  • You will gain experience in the workshop environment along with a number of fabrication skills
  • You will undertake workplace safety and risk assessment training
  • You will be supported in producing a CV and coached in interview skills
  • You will undertake a short work placement (subject to local employer availability)

This course can lead to:

  • Full-time employment in the Engineering sector
  • Work-based learning in employment, for example a Modern Apprenticeship
  • Full-time study at college in a related discipline from September 2023

This course runs for 6 weeks commencing 27 January 2023.

You will attend college 3 days each week, which will include: practical and theory skills, online learning and work placement activities - supported by our experienced Science and Engineering Academic and Academic Support staff.

This course is suitable for:

  • 16-19 year olds who are currently not working
  • Parents in work or out of work (please note eligible parents must have children aged 20 or under)
