There is currently a skills shortage in the Early Learning and Childcare Sector. This course aims to provide underpinning skills specific to this sector with the focus on supporting candidates to achieve an introductory skill set and understanding of the employment and career opportunities that currently exist within the Early Learning and Childcare Sector. As well as this, candidates will be provided with opportunities to develop transferable skills whilst building their confidence and self-esteem.

Your travel costs will be covered and a £5 lunch voucher will be provided during the course.

What will I learn on this course?

  • Child Development – the basic principles of how children develop from birth to 16.
  • Process of Play – a range of play types and play experiences and an understanding of the learning opportunities afforded to children whilst engaging in play.
  • Children’s Rights – the rights that young people should have today in society in relation to the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
  • Promote the Wellbeing and Safety of Children and Young People – an introduction to the term ‘wellbeing’ and the risks to the wellbeing and safety of children and young people in a childcare environment
  • Additional Support Needs – investigate a range of circumstances and conditions that may require the provision of additional support.
  • Contemporary Families – an awareness and understanding of the range of families in a contemporary society and the skills required to support children and young people
  • Interwoven throughout the programme will be an emphasis on meta skill building which will be embedded in industry-based contexts.

This course can lead to:

  • Employment opportunities within the Childcare sector – this could be in a nursery setting or in after school care
  • Further training or college courses within the Early Years or Health and Social Care subject areas

  • Course commences – Tuesday 31 January 2023 for 6 weeks.
  • 3 Days a week, face to face delivery on college campus. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
