Fraser Anderson
I was shortlisted and achieved 3rd place for Adult Apprentice of the Year.
SVQ 3 Carpentry & Joinery
Fraser started his career in the Forces, as a Fire Support Team Member, but upon leaving, he decided to attend an Open Day to develop a new career.
“While I was at school I had enjoyed studying woodwork, so I explored my study options in this field during the College Open Day and decided it would be a good career for me.
The practical side of the course was good. I learnt new skills and advanced those I already had from previous work experience. I found the drawing element of the course interesting too. It’s important to understand the drawings in order to complete your job, and luckily I enjoy this too.
I was nominated by lecturers for The Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council (SBATC) 2015 Apprentice of the Year Awards. I was shortlisted and achieved 3rd place for Adult Apprentice of the Year. I believe I was the first student from UHI Perth to be nominated in these awards, so it was a real honour.
I achieved a scholarship from local construction company Meldrum Property and Design Services which is where I undertook my apprenticeship, and this along with the achievement of my qualification, is essential to becoming a full time Joiner.”
