Employment history

  • A & M Records in London, involved in the design and construction of equipment for a 3-studio complex. He subsequently became assistant to design engineer Jim McBride in the building of a recording console for independent producer Glyn Johns.
  • Alf remained with Glyn for several years as maintenance engineer and assistant at Glyn’s private studio, working with artists such as Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Clash, Bob Dylan to name a few.
  • Throughout his career he has been Senior Audio Technician for several major recording studios while also being involved in recording projects including live recording in the UK and Europe. Several years were spent in Vancouver, Canada, working in both film and music studios.
  • After a period of 8 years teaching at the Arts Institute of Vancouver, Alf returned to Scotland.
