About this course

About this course

This qualification is designed to provide Senior Year 5 (S5) and Senior Year 6 (S6) pupils opportunities to develop skills and knowledge for entry into a career in the Business/Administration sector.

Two Year Option

The first year (S5) of the Foundation Apprenticeship will feature a National Progression Award in Business Skills. These will be delivered at UHI Perth.

During the second year (S6) pupils will be on work placement each week which supports competency development and gives valuable exposure to the working world. Some college attendance is also required in S6. This qualification is aimed at pupils commencing S5. Students should have the ability to work towards the SCQF Level 6 qualification components (the same level as Higher).

One Year Option

As above but learners will complete over one academic year. They must demonstrate commitment and the ability to complete study and work experience in one year. There will be a requirement for pupils to attend work placement during holidays and in June. This qualification is aimed at pupils commencing S6 however applicants from S5 will be considered.

Course Progression content

Course Progression

Course Progression

A pupil completing the Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills will have achieved a large proportion of the requirements for a Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration Level 3 and may be able to progress into this type of role.

Successful completion of the Foundation Apprenticeship could provide progression to:

  • Business related HNCs (SCQF Level 7) (for example, HNC Business, HNC Accounting, HNC Administration and Information Technology)
  • Business related HNDs (SCQF Level 8) with possible progression to a full Honours degree
  • Professional qualifications (SCQF Level 7 and above)

The Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills will also give a good insight into other business-related subjects, which the graduating Foundation Apprentice could pursue, either through a Modern Apprenticeship or academic/vocational studies in:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Procurement
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Enterprise

Foundation Apprenticeships are recognised by most Universities across Scotland. Skills Development Scotland have developed information to illustrate the value of a Foundation Apprenticeship for those considering application to College or University after school.

What Maryam Aziz says:

I wanted to complete the Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills as a stepping stone to enable me to study International Business in the future. I found that the coursework was manageable and my teachers and classmates were good to get along with.

What Oliver Roe says:

My reason for coming to UHI Perth was that I wanted a change in learning environment. I am interested in Business as a career and most enjoyed the computer work. I plan on continuing with a Modern Apprenticeship in the future.
