Kyle McGeoghie, a second year apprentice attending Perth College UHI on a Plumbing SVQ Level 3 Course, came second in the Scottish heat of the SkillPLUMB competition held at West College Scotland in June.

As part of the competition, which is held between all of the Plumbing Colleges in Scotland, Kyle had to complete a Copper Pipe Work forming and installation exercise lasting four hours.

Gordon Nisbet, Plumbing and Gas Lecturer at Perth College UHI, said: “Kyle was an excellent ambassador for Perth College UHI and his employer, William Combe & Son Plumbing & Heating in Auchterarder, during the competition. He did really well and produced copper pipe work to a very good and consistent standard. The criteria tolerances for the copper pipework was + or – 2mm, any dimension outside that tolerance was not marked.”

After his success in the Scottish Heat, Kyle has been invited to compete in the UK SkillPLUMB Final in November. Only the top eight competitors from all of the UK Heats make it to the final. Kyle qualified in third place. This is the third time in six years that one of Perth College UHI’s Plumbing Students has qualified for the UK SkillPLUMB Final. Successful students in the UK SkillPLUMB Final event have the chance of being nominated for the 2019 World Skills competition in Kazan, Russia.
