Face-to-face teaching to be suspended
All 14 principals of the University of the Highlands partnership met this morning (17 March) to coordinate a response to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
We are all acutely aware of the developing situation and advice from the Scottish Government.
As a result, we have decided to suspend the delivery of compulsory face-to-face teaching from 5pm today, Tuesday 17 March. For the rest of this week, there will be no teaching and online teaching will commence from Monday 23 March.
The Perth College UHI campus remains open, including the Academy of Sport and Wellbeing (ASW). The College library will be open until 9pm tonight.
• do not have to attend campus after today (Tuesday 17 March) unless told otherwise. This includes lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes, seminars etc.
• Students on placement should cease to attend their placement until further guidance is given.
• Course leaders will be in touch to explain how this will affect you directly and to let you know how they plan to continue teaching and assessment arrangements. It is important that you keep in touch with your course contact. There is guidance on supporting you access your online learning. Please note that in some cases it will be next week before final plans are agreed, but course teams will still make initial contact by 5pm on Wednesday.
• In the meantime, if you have any questions please get in touch with your course team and support services or use our red button feedback service.
Unless staff have an underlying health condition or are pregnant, they should continue working as normal, although with altered teaching arrangements if you are academic staff. As the situation evolves, there will be daily updates.
The wellbeing of students, staff and visitors to our many campuses across the university partnership continues to be our priority. These are unprecedented times but we're planning carefully to ensure students can continue their studies, including examination arrangements, with as little disruption as possible.
We are working closely with NHS services and Health Protection Scotland who are taking the lead in responding to this situation and we will take direction from them. Please continue to go to the NHS Inform website for the latest health-related information, including advice on self-isolation if you develop a cough or fever.
As and when there are further changes, we will distribute updates as soon as possible. Staff and students are requested to monitor their email accounts, and check this web page, Facebook and Twitter. Frequently asked questions will be posted at: www.uhi.ac.uk/coronavirus
