What is special about this course?

The health and social care professions include a broad range of jobs which aim to improve people's lives; working with clients, patients and their families, as well as with other professionals and organisations.  This course provides an introduction to the values, principles and practice of the caring professions

Entry requirements

Three qualifications at National 4 or equivalent or successful completion of the NC Personal and Vocational Skills (Next Steps 2 Learning) course.

If you do not meet these requirements you will be invited to discuss your experience and qualifications with us.  Your application and interview will form part of the selection process.

For mature learners we ask for relevant experience.  A professional reference and written piece is required before interview.

Human development and social influences on care; values and principles in care; IT; numeracy and communication at National 5.

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.

Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.

What can I do on completion of my course?

You may progress onto programmes related to the health and social care professions, for example, NC Health and Social Care or Access to Humanities

Work as a social care assistant may be open to you in a wide variety of settings, including working with vulnerable children and young people, adults with additional support needs, people with mental health issues or within domestic abuse.
