If you're in a helping role in a work related or voluntary capacity, this COSCA certificate is the perfect theoretical and practical course, allowing you to develop the ability to establish a safe, trusting, helping relationship with another person by becoming a reflective communicator. You will be supported during the course to reflect on and develop your own processes and experiences understanding how these have shaped the person that you are. You will also develop awareness of how the qualities, values, attributes and personality that you and others hold shape and affect helping relationships.
There are no formal entry requirements however it is expected that you will be working in a paid or voluntary capacity in a caring role. Your previous experience and qualifications will be taken into consideration. Your application and interview will form part of the selection process.
You can study one or more of the 4 modules that make up the certificate course. The course is designed to be delivered module by module, on a part-time basis that suits the busy lifestyles of the students. You will study a range of theoretical and practical topics designed to enhance your personal and professional development which are underpinned by an understanding of counselling theory. This completed course provides a COSCA certificated 120 training programme in counselling skills. The emphasis is on utilising experiential learning and provides an excellent starting point for those who wish to train as a counsellor or psychotherapist. The modules include beginnings, advanced communication skills, exploration and expansion, review and reflection and integration.

Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.
Successful completion of the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills (4 modules) will provide the entry criteria for the Diploma in Higher Education Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy.
This qualification helps to prepare you to be a reflective practitioner in a wide range of caring roles.
