Admission Procedures

Participation Statement: "Mountaineering Scotland recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.  Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement."

All climbers and guests must report to reception to complete the appropriate registration form and sign in before entering the climbing wall

Unsupervised Adult Climbing Registration

You must be over 18 to register as an unsupervised user of the centre.  We will give you a free induction to the wall and boulder area and an instructor will ask you to do a quick practical demonstration to check that you are a competent climber.  If you are registering to use the boulder area only you will also receive a boulder specific induction.  You will be asked to read the Conditions of Use and Rules of Perth College Climbing Centre and correctly complete a registration form. Once you have completed this registration you will be issued with a registration number and will be only have to sign in on your next visit.  You will be required to re-register every 3 years or if there are any changes to your personal information or the Conditions of Use of the centre

Practical Demonstrations and Boulder Inductions

It is our policy to observe a practical demonstration of all new customers who wish to register as an unsupervised climber.  This is a very brief process where we observe you fitting a harness, tying in and belaying.   Also, anyone who wishes to register to use the bouldering area only must go through a boulder induction where a member of staff will give information on safe practice.

Guest/Novice Climbing Registration

A registered unsupervised adult climber may sign in up to 2 novices/guests under their supervision.  Please note it is our policy that no novices can belay without direct supervision on the ground.   They will be completely responsible for their guests at all times and ensure that their guests understand and adhere to the Conditions of Use.  Parental consent is required for guests under 16 - for more details on Parental Consent please get in touch.

Junior Unsupervised Climbing Registration

Juniors from age 14 - 17 with experience are able to register as unsupervised climbers following completion of the following:

  • Practical competency check assessed by one of our instructors.  This will involve checks of harness fitting, tying in to the harness using an appropriate knot, belaying, holding a fall, lowering a climber, and safe bouldering techniques.  14 and 15 year olds should be accompanied by parents for this competency check
  • Satisfactory answers to a few basic questions
  • Understanding of Conditions of Use and Rules of Perth College Climbing Centre
  • Satisfactory completion of a registration form
  • Parental consent for anyone under 16
  • Please note that there is a separate competency check and registration form for junior unsupervised lead climbing

We do require these Junior Practical Checks to be booked in advance

We recommend contacting us prior to bringing a group to the centre as we may not be able to accommodate you depending on our commitments.

If supervising more than two people, you must:

  • provide copies of your relevant qualifications and insurance
  • provide a valid First Aid certificate
  • complete the appropriate registration form

The instructor to group ratio is 1:6. Admission costs will be relative to the age of the group members.

If members of your group are under 16 we require evidence of parental consent - for more details please get in touch.
