You will be assessed in a number of ways while on your course according to the type of course and what you are learning. Your assessment is very important for two reasons:
- It lets you and your lecturers know how you are getting on, and gives you feedback on anything you should be working on.
- You need to pass all of your assessments to enable you to achieve the qualification you have enrolled on.
You will get more detailed advice and guidance about assessments and their timing from your Student Adviser and course lecturers. Some courses will have continuous assessment where you hand in work throughout the year. Others will mix this with an end of course exam.
It is very important that you try to keep up with assessments and hand them in on the agreed dates. Always ensure that you follow instructions from your curriculum area for submission – make sure your name, lecturer name and subject is very clearly marked on the front. Degree students may be asked just to use their student number rather than their name. You must ensure that you collect feedback and results of assessment from your lecturer.
If you have medical, personal or study reasons why you might have a problem meeting assessment deadlines, it is vital that you speak to your lecturer or Student Adviser as soon as possible.
You have a right of appeal if you do not think that an assessment decision is fair. Further details on assessment regulations are found in your Course Handbook, or the UHI website.
