Article 12 UNCRC action-based research project

This action-based research project, commissioned by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, ran from 1 October 2010 to 31 March 2011.

It was designed to raise awareness of Article 12, UNCRC – namely the right of children to be heard and have their views taken seriously in all matters affecting them – in accordance with General Comment 12 of the UNCRC Committee on the Rights of the Child (1 July 2009), which identified that "there is a need for better understanding of what Article 12 entails and how best to fully implement it for every child".

General Comment 12 is required to be disseminated by governments through "holding workshops and seminars and incorporating it into the training of all professionals working for and with children".

The project was carried out by Mark Kelly and Lynn Whitaker of the Centre for Rural Childhood, Perth College, University of the Highlands and Islands, under the leadership of Professor Rebecca Wallace.

Child Recovery and Reintegration Network

Home: The Child Recovery and Reintegration Network - a dedicated online resource for the recovery and reintegration of children affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking globally - has recently gone live. Developed and maintained through an Oak Foundation fellowship, the site is supported by an Advisory Group of experts and hosted by the UHI Centre for Rural Childhood in Scotland. The online resource provides summaries of the key stages in the recovery and reintegration phase and directs readers to relevant texts. This important resource also has dedicated spaces for both researchers and practitioners to access tools and resources and post comments.
