Dr Jayne H Glass
Postgraduate Research Associate
- PhD Sustainability Studies, University of the Highlands and Islands (awarded by University of Aberdeen)
- MSc (Distinction) Environmental Sustainability, University of Edinburgh
- BA (Hons) Geography, Hertford College, University of Oxford
Jayne joined the Centre for Mountain Studies in September 2007 as part of the ‘Sustainable Estates for the 21st Century’ PhD studentship team. She has been working as a postdoctoral Research Associate since December 2010.
Under the supervision of Professor Martin Price and Dr Alister Scott (Birmingham City University), her PhD focused on developing a novel participatory method that allowed researchers to work with a range of stakeholders to discuss complex and/or controversial topics.
Jayne’s research explored the practical meaning of ‘sustainability’ in the context of estate management in upland Scotland by developing a sustainability workbook that can be used by estate managers and other stakeholders to monitor progress towards sustainability on the ground. The workbook was developed over a series of iterative rounds in tandem with nineteen estate management and sustainability professionals, researchers and policy makers.
The 'Sustainable Estates Workbook' has been piloted on a selection of upland estates owned by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community organisations.
For more information about this research or any of the papers/presentations listed below, please contact Jayne at the e-mail address above or visit the project website: Sustainable Estates for the 21st Century project website.
