A second strand relates to the role of EU structural funds as a policy mechanism for sustainable regional development. Calum’s PhD thesis is on implementing environmental policy in Scotland with reference to water pollution control and Government support for the voluntary environmental sector. Recent research includes post-legislative scrutiny of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 conducted on behalf of the Scottish Parliament and a study on the impact of ERDF and Cohesion Policy on the Highlands.
