The four core modules address key issues of theory and practice.

  • Policy framework and analysis
  • Developing communities

 

A range of optional modules are available, some of these are for skills development; others will help to develop a deeper understanding of key issues:

 

  • Biodiversity management
  • Sustainable Deer Management
  • Developing potential through placement
  • Environmental assessment
  • Field studies (not running in 2011/12)
  • Geographical information systems
  • People and Nature
  • Information society and rural development (not running in 2011/12) 
  • Local economic development
      (not running in 2011/12)
  • Research Methods and Techniques - this replaces the Developing a research capability module
  • Sustainable tourism
  • Water management
      (not running in 2011/12)

 

Students continuing to the MSc carry out a research dissertation into an issue of their choice, selected in consultation with a supervisor. The results are presented in a 15,000 word dissertation.


Graduates are eligible for membership of the Institute of Economic Development.
