Following the successful model of the 2005 conference, the 2010 conference will include the following elements:
1. Field trips to the Scottish Highlands on 26 September
2. Morning plenary sessions
- on the first three days, these will primarily consist of keynote presentations by internationally-recognised experts (see Plenary Speakers page) who will particularly emphasize progress since 2005, followed by discussion
- on the final day, the plenary session will focus on the outcomes of the conference and look forward to 2012, when the UN Commission on Sustainable Development will specifically address mountain issues, which are also expected to be included in a global Summit, 20 years after the Rio Earth Summit
3. Afternoon sessions
- thematic sessions are being convened by global leaders in their field (see Themes page)
4. Poster sessions
- these will be linked to the thematic and working sessions, and will include a specific session linked to the reception on Monday 27 September
5. Working sessions to review and further develop activities within focussed research programmes
- participants are invited to organise these sessions over lunch-hours. If you would like to organise such a meeting, please contact Angela Paterson at the conference secretariat: mountain.conf@perth.uhi.ac.uk
6. Public event to facilitate knowledge exchange
- planned for the evening of 28 September
7. Conference dinner on 29 September
*** Linked to the conference, two international meetings will directly precede it in Perth: ***
