The networking meeting is a two day event taking place in Aviemore on 15-16 November 2010. Participants will be given the opportunity to discuss research activities and opportunities to improve the value of research for practitioners in the Cairngorms.
Networking Meeting Aims:
- bring together researchers and practitioners working in the Cairngorms National Park
foster a “knowledge sharing” network for sustainable development
- increase understanding and awareness of research in Cairngorms National Park
- involve stakeholders and practitioners in an ongoing dialogue about how to best apply relevant research into practice
- identify potential complementarities and gaps in order to support the Park Authority in delivering its future National Park Plans
Structure:
The meeting will be structured around three main themes for the next National Park Plan. For more information on the themes, please see the Meeting Structure page.
The first day will provide the opportunity for researchers to meet and share knowledge about recently completed or ongoing applied research projects in the Park. We will encourage participants to network and explore common research interests. The afternoon will include themed group sessions.
The second day will be a more ‘hands on’ public event, open to interested land managers, local communities and businesses, community groups and local authorities. All researchers attending the first day are also encouraged to attend day two. The aims of the day will be to communicate applied research taking place in the Park to a wider audience, to encourage feedback and discussion especially from new participants, and possibly to identify new themes for research with the involvement of stakeholders. These aims will be achieved through field trips, poster displays and discussion groups. The field trips and working groups will be structured around the themes of sustainable land use, sustainable forests, sustainable destiantions and communities and will stimulate connections between research and practice.
