The Centre for Interpretation Studies (CIS) is home to the pioneering MSc Interpretation: Management and Practice.
This unique programme, created and delivered by an extensive team of senior interpretation practitioners, academics and researchers, brings together research, theory and practice to create a new, rounded interpretive professional.
Interpretation is an informal learning discipline that seeks to influence people’s social and cultural capital and behaviour. It is used worldwide by governments, public agencies, charitable organisations and tourism businesses to achieve organisational aims ranging from public education to income generation.
Our programme is essential for those seeking to acquire or develop interpretive knowledge and practical skills in the discipline.
We draw on a unique partnership between government agencies, commercial businesses and the education sector to go beyond theory and discussion to engage students in the practical application of the multidisciplinary knowledge and skills of interpretation.
Real interpretive project materials and best practice case studies are used to help students develop their intellectual, creative and critical abilities, ultimately enhancing their employability and career development.
Many of our students are already benefiting from the programme, which was developed with support from the following organisations:
