Ann Gloag - Balcraig Foundation |
The UHI Centre for Rural Childhood, based at Perth College UHI, has received a pledged cash boost of £200,000 from Ann Gloag’s Balcraig Foundation towards its aims to improve the lives of children locally, nationally and internationally.
Established in 2007, the centre leads on all aspects of childhood issues including health, education, crime, drugs, abuse, sexual exploitation and the experiences of immigrant children - all in a rural context, which is largely ignored in favour of studies into childhood problems in urban situations.
Ann Gloag’s support will help fund the work of the Centre for the next three years. Professor Rebecca Wallace, Centre for Rural Childhood director explained: “We are absolutely delighted to have the continued interest and support of Ann Gloag through her Balcraig Foundation. This donation will assist in developing our strategy for the next three years and will consolidate and further develop the work of the centre focussing on child trafficking and exploitation”.
Michael Bullough, Chair for Perth College Development Trust, which raised the funds to set up the Centre said “We are delighted to receive this most generous donation from the Balcraig Foundation which will help the Centre continue the excellent research work that staff have started.” The Centre, which intends to meet the highest standards of academic achievement through teaching and research, also engages in political agendas relating to rural childhood.
The Balcraig Foundation is a charitable trust that aims to relieve human suffering and deprivation in the UK and overseas and, where possible, partners with other trusts and organisations to achieve this goal.
