Newbiz ‘12: Scotland’s Conference for Private & Social Enterprise on Tuesday 7 February 2012 at Perth Concert Hall is aimed at individuals from both the private and social enterprise sectors who are looking to transform an idea into an actual business as well as existing businesses. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from a line-up of inspirational speakers, join business development workshops and network and make new contacts.
Mick is a serial venture philanthropist, author, ex-chart-topping rock singer and international business speaker. He is also the founder of WildHearts, a charity committed to launching companies that fight poverty. In 2008 he was voted Entrepreneur of the Year and Top Scot by the Scottish public.
There will also be a panel who delegates can ask questions to, with Tony Banks, the Chairman of Balhousie Care Group, Scotland's fastest growing residential care home provider among its members. He will be joined by Gillian Dick, the Managing Director of On Track Advertising who founded an award-winning website and won the Glasgow Business Award for Best Use of Social Media in 2010. Also on the panel is Karen Farquhar, who has been with Befriend A Child for 15 years, and in that time the organisation has achieved a number of awards including the Queen's Award For Voluntary Service.
Workshops participants may join include: Digital Media, presented by Martin Jordan of Equator; Social Enterprise with Local Social Economy Partnerships (LSEP) and Mick Jackson and Facilitated Networking with Let's Network Perth.
Sheena Howden, Centre for Enterprise Manager explained: “Our Newbiz conferences are proving to be one of the 'must attend' business events of the year and we look forward to seeing some old and new faces at this year’s event. We aim to help delegates understand how they can build upon their idea or further develop their existing business by encouraging business confidence and inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs.
“Last year's NewBiz conference gained the prestigious Highly Commended Award in the 'Event of the Year' category in the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Star Awards 2011, proving its value to those who attend.”
Councillor John Kellas, Perth & Kinross Council’s Convener of Enterprise and Infrastructure said: “NewBiz gives established businesses and prospective entrepreneurs alike the chance to learn about how they can take an idea forward or build on existing success. The conference has grown year on year since it began, and I am delighted that we are again welcoming notable businessmen and women to share their experiences and advice.”
The free conference on Tuesday 7 February 2012 will be held at Perth Concert Hall, Mill Street, Perth. Doors open at 9.15 am for refreshments and networking, and the conference runs from 10.15am to 3.30pm. Lunch will be provided.
