Additional funding for dementia project

Perth College UHI Development Trust has secured additional funding, taking the amount over £100,000, to support a collaborative research project investigating factors which might influence the development of dementia.

Scheduled to be completed in 2013, the study will be carried out at Perth College UHI in partnership with the Scottish Dementia Clinical Research Network and NHS Tayside at Murray Royal Hospital, a centre of excellence in mental health.   Two interconnected studies will be run to look at individuals who may be at risk from dementia and assess their main concerns, need for information and emotional support.

It will also seek guidance from those working with patients affected by the disease in order to design a care package for affected families.  This project adds to Perth College UHI’s focus as part of the University of Highlands and Islands on rural aspects across research and specialist areas.

Fiona Leslie, Development Trust Manager explained: “This is great news but we still need to generate more support to complete phase two of the project.   There are a number of ways people can help us raise money for the study or make a contribution.  For more information, contact me on fiona.leslie@perth.uhi.ac.uk or by calling 01738 877215.”
