Most of our distance learning courses lead to qualifications and, where this is the case, there is always a need to assess your work. The following courses all have assessment:
- HNC/HND courses
- Higher and Intermediate 2 courses
- SQA modules
- ECDL modules
- ASDAN courses
In almost all cases, the assessment requires to be supervised and carried out under closed book conditions. Closed book conditions means that you may not refer to any coursework during the assessment.
Sitting your assessment
You may sit the assessment at a centre approved by us whereupon there will be a supervisor available for you. Centres include the College itself and any of our own learning centres (link to learning centres here) and those with which we have a partnership agreement (eg Argyll College and Skye and Lochalsh Learning Centre Network).
Finding a supervisor
You may appoint your own supervisor who has agreed to act in this capacity. This might be your manager at work or someone who knows you in a professional capacity, but it may not be a member of your family. If your course requires such a supervisor we will send you a form to nominate a supervisor.
Resits
For all SQA courses you are allowed one resit. If you fail to pass the assessment at the second attempt you will require to re-enrol for the course and pay the full fee again. For European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) modules, you may resit tests several times but each re-test will cost you £10.
Higher and Intermediate 2 Exams
These may only take place at an approved SQA centre (a local secondary school or College) by previous arrangement. If you are unable to sit the exam at Perth College UHI please let us know when you enrol and we will assist you in finding a centre near your home.
Prelims and appeals
You will be given the opportunity to sit a prelim examination around Easter time (exact date will be decided by your tutor). If you do not sit the prelim examination there is no possibility of an appeal. If you are entitled to appeal. Perth College UHI will do this automatically on your behalf. This is at our discretion.
