About this course
Do you love making music? This course is made for you, giving you the solid foundation you need to be a successful musician. You’ll perform and record live music and learn how to best promote your band. You’ll also learn about theory and history of music and develop skills on your chosen instrument. Whether you are planning a career in the modern music industry or simply feel you would benefit from a year spent in an exciting musical environment, this course will set you on the right track.
You study
Classes are designed to make you a more accomplished and confident performer.
You’ll have the opportunity to improve instrumental skills (guitar, bass, drums and drumming, keyboards, vocals) and live performance skills and can study: music theory; music history; rhythmic development and aural training plus many practical-based opportunities. You will also get to form and play in your own band.
Getting started
There are no formal entry requirements but you should have a level of ability on your specialist instrument equivalent to Trinity College Grade 3. Entry is by audition and interview, including a short test paper which will allow us to assess your level of musical knowledge.

Progression at Perth College UHI
After successful completion of this NC you will be considered for entry to our HNC/HND Music programme. You could then continue on to get a BA/BA Honours in Popular Music at Perth College UHI.

If you choose not to continue your studies you can utilise skills to find employment in the music industry.
