About this course
Our SQA Higher courses can help you get the qualifications you need to get into College or University. A pass in Higher Maths opens doorways for careers in science, medicine, engineering, finance, actuarial work and other specialised areas.
Our Higher Maths classes meet twice weekly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. There is an alternative weekly class on Thursday evenings.
Assessment is by external exam in May, subject to passing three internal unit assessments (NABs) spread throughout the year.
You study
The course consists of three units each containing four outcomes. Topics studied include vectors, functions, graphs, logs, differentiation, integration, polynomials and trig equations.
To do well in this course it is important to have a strong background in algebra. Students should be comfortable with equations, negatives, algebraic manipulation, brackets, factorising quadratics, fractions, surds and indices.
If you want to study Maths at a less advanced level, then our Intermediate 2 course can help prepare you for Higher or get you into Primary teaching.
Classes begin in late August or early September and it is important to join the class as soon as possible. We do not accept new students onto this course after our October holiday.
