 Advanced ECDL - Databases

About this course

If you regularly use a database application and need to know how to use a database system and be able to organise, view and extract data, then ECDL Advanced Databases will give you the knowledge and skills you need.

You Study

Course content covers:

  • Table design: understand the use of various data types, create input masks and validation rules, set mandatory fields.
  • Data relationships: understand and create data relationships, apply inner, outer and self joins. Apply and use referential integrity.
  • Query design: create queries to update, append and delete data and create new tables based on query data. Group data in a query, use functions and logical expressions in a query. Show duplicate records and highest/lowest values. Use crosstab and parameter queries.
  • Form design: Create bound and unbound controls, combo, list and check boxes and option groups. Set arithmetic and logical expression controls. Set sequential order of controls on a form. Create and modify subforms.
  • Report design: Create arithmetic, logical and percentage controls on a report. Use formulas such as sum, max and count. Create running summaries and data headings.
  • Macros: Create and run macros. Assign macros to form/report controls.
  • Data Management: Import and export data. Link data to an external database.

 40 hours over 26 weeks, £120.

You can start this course at any time of the year, but it must be completed within 6 months of enrolment.
