Health and Social Care: Supervision PDA

Course Details

About this course

This new SQA Qualification for Supervisors in Care Settings meets the registration requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) four-month programme using a mixture of open learning and classroom teaching.

As an alternative to a full SVQ level 4 award, staff with SVQ level 3 in Care or equivalent can undertake supervisory or management qualifications like this at SCQF level 7 with a minimum of 15 credits to meet the SSSC registration requirements.

Those working as supervisors or trainee supervisors in other care settings will also find this course valuable.

You study

Two units of the new PDA Health and Social Care Supervision Award provide 16 credits at SCQF level 7:

  • Health and Social Care: Supervise People
  • Health and Social Care: Supervise the Protection of People

The course is delivered using face–to-face learning, supported by online material, and workplace assessment.  You study when it suits you, with tutor support available by email and phone.

You should be able to complete the two credits within four months.

Getting started

You should be able to show your potential to meet the academic demands of the award. Ideally qualified or working towards SVQ3 level, you should have had good experience in the care sector, ideally in a supervisory position. You will also need a computer, be able to visit websites, email and word process assignments.

You will need to study around six hours a week, so it’s important that your employer helps you meet this commitment.

Getting more

Each unit costs £95, which includes open learning materials. The two units cost £215.50 (£190 plus a group award fee of £25.50).

You may be eligible for an Individual Learning Account (ILA) of £200, so call 0808 100 1090 or visit www.ilascotland.org.uk to find out more.
