About this course
This Professional Development Award is an SQA Qualification for Social Care Workers involved in the Administration of medication in care homes, residential care or care at home services, and is designed to meet the registration requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for supervisors in care settings.
You will need to study around six hours a week, so it’s important that your employer helps you meet this commitment.
You study
- HN Unit – Administration of Medication (F9D934) SCQF Level 7
- SVQ – Administer Medication to Individuals (DK2X04) SCQF level 6
You should be able to complete the two credits within four months.
The course is delivered using face–to-face learning, supported by online material, and workplace assessment. You study when it suits you, with tutor support available by email and phone.
There are also optional classes in Perth, for discussion and understanding of issues raised in the units and clarifying assessment tasks.
Getting started
You should be able to show your potential to meet the academic demands of the award. Ideally qualified or working towards SVQ3 level, you should have had good experience in the care sector and must be working in a role you help in administering medication. You will also need a computer, be able to visit websites, email and word process assignments.
