Welcome to parents
Moving away from home for the first time can be a big step for new students, but it can be just as big a change for their parents and guardians.
At Perth College UHI we pride ourselves on providing great facilities for our students. Our Residence Management team provides information to all parents and guardians of students in an effort to ease any concerns you may have. They provide assistance in finding a place for all new students. First year students have priority for on-campus student residences.
We also encourage prospective students and their parents to attend one of our open days throughout the year. Not only can you find out more about course options and meet teaching staff and current students, but you can also tour our campus. To get a virtual tour of our campus, click here.
Parents' frequently asked questions
Below are the most frequently asked questions we receive about students applying for our student residences, especially for those moving away from home for the first time to start their studies.
If you have a query which is not answered below, please contact our Residence Management team.
Is my child guaranteed accommodation?
We have 72 bedrooms in our residences, so cannot provide all of our new students with accommodation. However, we do prioritise requests based on various factors, including distance from the family home, the student's age and personal circumstances.
If I travel with my child to the College, we may have travelled a long way – where can I spend the night in Perth?
There are lots of places to stay in and around Perth. You should book somewhere in advance, as it gets busy at certain times of the year. You can look for accommodation on VisitScotland's website or through the Hotels uk.com online directory.
What if my child suffers from a medical condition or has an accident in the residences?
We ask our students to give us details of any serious or ongoing medical conditions before they arrive at the residences. This will help our staff to spot problems more quickly.
Residence wardens and caretakers are trained in First Aid and will provide emergency care in most situations that arise.
In less urgent cases where emergency response is not required, students can be transported to Perth Royal Infirmary by taxi.
