The Faculty of Medicine at the University of St Andrews and Perth College UHI are now offering an exclusive opportunity to study medicine after the successful completion of an HNC Applied Sciences at Perth College UHI.
Course Details
The course lasts for one year and contains 15 credits (SCQF level 7) in the following subject areas:
- Chemistry
- Microbiology
- Cell Biology
- Human Physiology
- Information Technology
- Presentation Skills in Science
- Health and Safety in Science
- Maths
- Science Project
Course Progression
Once you successfully complete this course you can progress to the 6-year medical programme at the Bute Medical School, University of St Andrews. See

As there are a limited number of places available for progression to the medical programme, selection will be based upon performance on the HNC Applied Sciences (Pathway to Medicine) course.
Entry Requirements
- You should be a UK or EU citizen, have left school at least four years before your application and have no tradition of university study in your immediate family.
- You should not have studied above HNC level before.
- You will have achieved a Higher or A level pass (A, B or C grade) in one of the following scientific subjects: Biology, Human Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Maths or Physics OR an A pass on an Access to Science programme that includes a pass (A, B or C grade) in a science Higher or equivalent.
- At interview for the HNC Applied Sciences (Pathway to Medicine) you must demonstrate a clear commitment to pursuing a career in medicine.
- You must satisfy the Medical Fitness to Practise regulations.
