When I left school at 15, I did various things, including working in a garage and going on a work training course for the local council in Stornoway. I’d been looking for an apprenticeship for three years, and after I’d been out of work for six months I decided I’d go to college.
I found a course in Perth, got an interview in December and started in January. I’ve never really done things like making bits of chassis and exhaust pipes, but it’s a good experience.
And I’ve never properly done welding and now I’m getting better at it too. I’m really enjoying it, and the qualification could help me open my own business or get a full-time job.
It’s been a good year so I’m going back on the next course, body and painting.
