Hamish joined our HNC Sports Coaching and Development course as a mature student. Deciding to leave full-time employment wasn't easy, as was concerned about remembering how to study and about the financial constraints placed on students. Fortunately, he was able to stay with Live Active Leisure and work part-time while studying.
“I’m now in my fourth year of a Sports Science degree at Edinburgh Napier University. The HNC at Perth College UHI allowed me to gain direct access into second year, and I feel confident that I made the right choice in returning to education.
"There’s no doubt the knowledge and experience I gained at Perth College has played a big part in my academic and athletic development. As a result, new training opportunities have arisen, allowing me to travel and train with elite athletes.
"In my spare time, I train for and compete in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Accordingly, I worked very hard to achieve the appropriate balance between work, study and training. I believe that studying at Perth College has allowed me to gain valuable experience in planning and organising my time appropriately – An integral aspect of any learning experience.
"The lecturing staff at Perth are very professional, enthusiastic and passionate. Their approach to learning gave me the knowledge and support required to succeed in tertiary education. As a result of my beneficial, informative and enjoyable time at Perth College, I would strongly recommend any of the sport-related courses available there."
